Amazon Kindle Fire [Video Review]

This is a really really rough cut of my first video review which happens to be on Amazon's Kindle Fire. Watch the short video, tell me what you think. You are a fan? Do you plan on buying one?

For a great and very thorough review, check out Joshua Topolsky's review on The Verge!

Have you read The Hunger Games Trilogy???

Adelle and I, including many of our friends, have just recently completed reading Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games Trilogy.  Starting with "The Hunger Games", "Catching Fire", and concluding with "Mockingjay," you follow Katniss Everdeen in continual sacrifice living in a dystopian future.  Where children are "chosen" to participate in a Japanese style gameshow with a "Highlander" like twist - "there can be only one," you are immediately swept away with emotion for the courageous protagnist.  Comparing it to a little bit of Running Man meets Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World", these books are enjoyable and a welcome change to the vampire / werewolf flood.  I'd recommend reading them before the movie comes out!  There a *spoiler alert* in the trailer, so if you have any interested in the books, at least read the first one before clicking play. You can support us by clicking on the amazon links below and if you haven't yet, check out the amazing theatrical trailer that debuted this week down below!

How do you Program an App?

If you've been having trouble realeasing your first iPhone app or any iOS app for that matter, grab some inspiration from this guy! Watch in awe how sixth grader Thomas Suarez presents at TEDxManhattanBeach about how he first started developing iPhone applications. What have you done today!?

AT&T vs. Sprint iPhone 4S

Here it is, my 32GB White iPhone 4S on AT&T vs. my mother-in-law's 16GB White iPhone 4S on Sprint. The location is San Diego and the video is crappy (so sorry). I rushed this to the internet and will try to upload better quality videos later. This was shot on my Canon S90 in low light.

Testing the new iPhones in San Diego, California, I have two brand new iPhone 4S working on their perspective networks, AT&T and Sprint. Both caches, cookies and histories were erased and I loaded up Briam Lam's The Wirecutter and from there navigated to various parts of the site (MacBook Air Review) as well as load up a link to Jason Snell's MacWorld Review.

TED Talks: Abraham Verghese: A doctor's touch

Once in a while (alright, on many many occasions), TED Talks posts an inspirational video from past events and this week, and I've finally caught up with their video podcast that was posted on September 26, 2011. Filmed in July at TEDGlobal 2011, Dr. Verghese speaks of today's exchange between doctor and patient while comparing it to times of past where a physical interaction was more prevalent. During the last year or so, not a day has gone by where this field has been more and more intriguing to me and videos like these truly provide great inspiration. I hope it finds you well.

VW Passat Commercial

It's not that Adelle or I need a new car, but I just love automobiles and VW's latest commercials make them so intriguing! Walking around town, Adelle has taken a liking to the new Jetta TDI Sportwagon and I'm all for it. Maybe it just might be the ticket in trading in her Honda Civic and my BMW 5.28iT Wagon? Of course, this is just all wishful thinking! The VW Passat also looks amazing traveling just under 800 miles in one tank!!! AMAAAA-ZING!

Video Friday!!! By My Side - David Choi

I know it's been a while since the last update, but over the past couple of days, I've been missing my other half a little too much. Perfect timing as David Choi's awesome new music video just hit the interwebs! Produced by the amazing Wong Fu Productions, check out the video below! Now only if I could play the guitar like him.

Extra Day in NYC!

Adelle: fishing on long island sound is cool. adelle 2, everyone else 0. my delicious 12 lb stripped bass fed 6 people! Elijah: Being stuck in NY for an extra day isn't that bad of a thing especially when you have a great friend who lives in Long Island and a good AMAZING friend who lives in the city. Grabbing some brunch and hanging out with Esther till the last minute worked out. Like I already said, extra time is a good thing! We walked pass the cafe that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan met in "You've Got Mail," and got to see the top of the Metropolitan Museum.

Next up was taking the Long Island Railroad to Huntington via Penn Station. It's a normal thing these days that I've come to learn over the last five years and upon arrival, we had a good cookout with some of Matt's friends. It's been a long while in the making, but Adelle finally got to hang out with me in Northport which has become one of my favorite little towns. We grabbed some ice cream at Lic's then went to bed early. Matt's family has always been more than hospitable and once again, great hosts!

Up a little late in the morning, we headed down to Northport Harbor and boarded up the Reverence II with Matt's family! Another "event" that I was excited about. Bruce, Barbara, Chris and Matt, along with Adelle and I departed the Harbor and motored to 11B where we waited for the tide to turn. Matt's poles ended up catching 90% of all the fish. Two bass and a couple of blue fish. An exciting day that also included a great breakfast prepared by Matt's mom, Barbara. It was quite on the bay. Maybe a little too quiet as we ate but definitely proving to be very relaxing and enjoyable.

I shot the video on the iPhone 4. Unedited, enjoy it below!

Here's lunchy!

Have an iPad 2 yet?

Apple just posted a new iPad video demonstrating the diverse uses of the iPad 2, and it's awesome! Entitled "Now," after watching the commercial, we all can expect that life from this time forward will be different and done on an iPad. (not a Galaxy Tab =) ) If you haven't succumb to buying the latest and greatest tablet computer from Apple, watch this commercial and tell me you don't want one. I know I do.

Ever since selling my iPad one a little prematurely last November, I've been itching for a new tablet. You ask why I haven't bought one yet...it's because I'm waiting. I'm waiting like I always do when it comes to tech toys but be rest assured, I'll be in line or online at day 0 for the iPad 3.

Best Commercial Ever!

I first saw this ad the other day on television and it struck a chord. I freaking was about to break down and just tear some good old happy feelings! You watch and don't tell me it's not a freaking awesome idea / commercial. If you don't come up with any emotion, you're a robot!

It's kind of reminicient of Michael Keaton's movie "My Life," but on a more happier note. I'm going to steal this idea next July ^_^

An Amazing Commencement Speech by an Amazing Comedian

An amazing commencement address by Conan O'Brien to Dartmouth's 2011 graduating class. Truly inspiring and chock full of wisdom. This is definitely up there next to Steve Job's 2005 Stanford Commencement Address also know as the “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish," speech. A favorite excerpt of mine is:

Niche famously said, whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger. What he failed to stress is that it almost kills you! (16:59)

and the one that rings true to my heart:

It is our failure to become our perceived ideal that ultimately defines us and makes us unique... your perceived failure can become a catalyst for profound reinvention. (20:53)

How do you wake up?!

Most people, read: myself and my wife, have annoying ring tones or music that helps us wake up in the morning. Of course, with that annoying tone comes the dragging of feet and impolite curses, but it's all in a morning right? We'll call it the rude awakening.

Now, with this new "Acoustic Alarm by Jamie McMahon," you can set the tone and have it strum back to reality. Check out the video below! You can also check out Jamie McMahon's website here.

Go Padres!

Preventing a sweep by the Cincinnati Reds, the San Diego Padres, with bases loaded at the bottom of the ninth pulled through! I had that feeling / intuition that they'd do it so I quickly switched my iPhone 4 into video mode and captured it live then immediately uploaded it to twitter & twitvid! And just in case you're wondering, YES...this is worth a blog post!

Adelle and I (Elijah) hold some awesome 2011 Season tickets to the San Diego Padres and will be holding giveaways now and then. If you are interested in purchasing a pair for a particular game, send an email to us@adellelijah.com and we'll get back to you with what we have and don't have left.

Here's a picture of myself, Adelle, Ester and Jeremiah where me and Jeremiah are sitting in the actual seats, Field Reserve, Section 120, Row 17, Seats 8 & 9. It's the section to be in.

Kickstarter - Urbanized: A Documentary Film

Here's your chance to support an amazing film by Gary Hustwit as he completes his Design Trilogy with the making of "Urbanized." Currently at 85% of his goal, on Kickstarter, Mr. Hustwit offers a whole array of types of deals ranging from $10 to $5000 for a private screening. Just for a mere $400, you and your company can be listed in Mr. Hustwit's credits under the "Special Thanks" segment which I think is a steal! Check out the video below and support his Kickstarter!

Gary's two other amazing films, Helvetica and Objectified, have received amazing reviews and you too should check them out now. Heck, I'd go for the Blu-ray Design Trilogy which includes the hardcover book and other contents sign by the man himself for a Kickstarter pledge of $125! We have just under 13 days to help the guy out! What's not to love?

What shows do you watch?

Back in September of 2009, a new show debuted on NBC providing comical relief to the dreary primetime slot. Since then, Community has maintained it's spectrum of laughs and even has garnered popular cast webisodes, the most popular staring Danny Pudi's Abed & Donald Glover's Troy on various projects such A/V Department. Both have taken their characters to new heights. Now, with the popular Genre Swap meme on Tumblr, an awesome trailer has debuted creating Community: the Murder Mystery. What if the show was a drama? Watch and be inspired!

Follow Danny Pudi on Twitter here and Donald Glover here. You can even check out iamdoanld.com for all the goodness that he has to offer.

Listen to Three Amazing Stories from Steve Jobs

Made public a little while back, I thought that I should share it with you all here on this blog, adellelijah. I have to admit that it is very inspiring and let's face it, I'm a big fan. Steve Jobs speaks really well, holds my attention and is just a force that we should all listen to. Here are a few of my favorite quotes from various parts of the speech I that I want to share:

"Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards." "Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith." "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish."

There's also this which I take to heart:

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle."

Watch and be truly inspired! Do something that you believe in to be truly amazing today. In its entirety, Steve Jobs' 2005 Stanford Commencement Address also know as the "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. Speech"

You can check out the full text of Steve Jobs' Commencement address here.

TED Talks: Patricia Kuhl - The linguistic genius of babies

Babies' brains are "...nothing short of rocket science." Check out what goes on during critical periods of development and the variations of language presented in both English and Japanese. As always, very, very fascinating. Over the next few days, I'll be posting some goodness from the various TED Talks that I've been watching. Back in January, I posted one about getting more sleep and how it equates to success by Arianna Huffington. If you haven't already seen it, check it out as well.

Kickstarter: Custom SLR Split Strap

Yet another awesome project to "back" by one of the first guys that we "backed" on Kickstarter by Custom SLR. A great group of SLR enthusiasts putting together another awesome idea for all those hobbyists, professionals and geeks that carry bags. Something so simple as this Split Strap used to string around an expensive camera or laptop. If you've been looking for a replacement for that the crappy one on your laptop bag, gym bag or your european man bag, help these guys out! Who knew that a swivel and a vent could be prove that much utility? Pay close attention though, there are quite a few different Split Straps based on the "backing" level. The first lists at $20 for cameras then the rest are as follows; $22 for laptop bags, $24 for larger duffles, $26 for guitars, $28 for the gliding Split Strap for those SLR enthusiasts, or $30 for the Split Strap arm sling. I know that's a lot of options, but hey, we all have the need for 'em. If you feel like going the distance, pledge $150 and get all the various straps that Custom SLR has to offer. Pictures are embedded throughout the Kickstarter website.
